President Thomas Jefferson was an advocate for slave breeding. Virginia, Jefferson's home state, was the birthplace of the slave breeding industry in America. Female slaves were forced to have as many children as possible. These children were then taken away from their mothers as soon as they were weaned. The children were then sold to plantations in the Deep South. Most of these children would spent the remainder of their lives picking cotton in the Cotton Kingdom. In the 1800's, cotton made America a global power and contributed to the Industrial Revolution.
